Communications Officer


The Philippines Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture (PPSA) brings together companies, government agencies, civil society organizations, farmer groups, and financial institutions to empower and link smallholder farmers to the market with the shared goal of improving farmers’ profitability and productivity while increasing the environmental sustainability of their farms.


The PPSA was catalyzed by Grow Asia, and formally launched by the Department of Agriculture in 2015 following commitments made by key players in the Philippine agriculture sector at the Grow Asia Agriculture Forum the year prior. 


Today, the PPSA brings together more than 130 organizations, who collaborate through crop-based Working Groups (i.e., coffee, coconut, corn, fisheries, and vegetables) and cross-cutting Working Groups, (i.e., agri-finance, learning alliance, digital agriculture).


The Communications Officer will work directly with the Partnerships and Engagement Manager in managing and monitoring PPSA’s communication platforms, especially in supporting the organization's internal and external communications strategy, coordination with partners, and promoting knowledge exchange among PPSA members and partners.


This role is an opportunity for learning and networking with national and international agribusinesses, development partners, and counterpart ministries, as well as to learn from the other Grow Asia Country Partnerships across the ASEAN region. The Communications Officer will be able to make a tangible contribution to the sustainable development of the Philippines' agriculture sector and gain valuable insights, networks, and experience in building an exciting member-based network. To succeed in this role, the Communications Officer should be able to think creatively in communicating our work in the agriculture sector in a way that resonates with our different stakeholders and audiences.


Essential duties and responsibilities:



  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of PPSA’s Communication Plan and Strategies

  • Write, develop, and design communication materials including publications, press releases, website and social media content, and other communication materials that will support PPSA’s work streams on project partners, knowledge and learning, and policy environment for agri investment

  • Manage, update, and monitor PPSA’s communication platforms such as social media pages, e-newsletter, and website

  • Prepare and write analytics reports of PPSA’s communication platforms and seek opportunities to enhance the brand reputation of the organization by exploring innovative ways for information dissemination and engagement

  • Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and draft press kits, talk points, speeches, and presentations

  • Maintain and grow the e-newsletter mailing list of PPSA members/partners and establish an effective relationship with other partners and the media for the promotion of PPSA’s advocacy

  • Support the development of the PPSA’s branding guidelines and ensure brand consistency across platforms

  • Represent Grow Asia and PPSA in local and international forums


Knowledge and Event Management


  • Support knowledge sharing by organizing webinars and learning sessions and coordinating with the co-organizers and resource speakers

  • Support the planning and implementation of the organization’s key events such as the Key Partners Meeting, Working Group meetings, roundtable discussions, workshops, and forums

  • Maintain a database of PPSA’s communication materials and publications

Resource Mobilization

  • Work with the PPSA team in exploring resource mobilization initiatives towards financial stability and sustainability

  • Assist in the development of grant and project proposals as part of PPSA’s resource mobilization efforts


  • University Degree in development communications, journalism, mass communication or any relevant field

  • Demonstrated experience in communications or corporate affairs. Experience in agriculture, corporate, or member-based organizational settings is an advantage

  • Excellent communication skills, including fluent written and spoken Filipino and English

  • Excellent writing skills, especially in writing feature articles, profile stories, blogs and press releases, and laymanizing case studies, research, and technical reports

  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team

  • Excellent eye for detail, layout and design

  • Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office and Google Suite

  • Knowledgeable with design, publishing, and editing software and tools like Canva and InDesign

  • Experience in social media and website management and direct email marketing

  • Experience in photography and videography is beneficial

  • Credibility and confidence in dealing with people from various sectors

  • Ability to travel when needed
