About the Event

Reports state that the country’s fruit industry greatly contributes to the Philippine economy, with the country being a major producer and exporter of Cavendish banana, pineapple, mango, and papaya. With the country’s rich variety of tropical fruits, the Philippines generates over US$ 500,000 from their export.

However, as with most of the industries and sector, the fruit industry is currently experiencing a decline in the production, specifically if three major fruit crops: banana, calamansi, and mango. The Philippine Statistics Authority reported that only pineapple, the fourth major crop, increased its output during the first quarter of 2020.

This webinar session will be PPSA’s spring board in introducing itself to the key players of the fruit industry and hopefully creating the PPSA Emerging Fruits Working Group. It will introduce Grow Asia and PPSA’s learning and knowledge platforms and initiatives related to the fruit industry and initiate a discussion on how to better work together given the pandemic.

About the PPSA Working Groups Learning Series: PPSA's second webinar series in 2020, the Working Groups Learning Series is a nine-part webinar that focuses on topics and issues related to the PPSA working groups. Each webinar session will highlight a Learning Session (Part 1) with identified national and regional (Asian) speakers, and a Roundtable Discussion (Part 2) to discuss and identify possible points for collaboration and collective action.
