GrowBright: Internship Program

PPSA recognizes the important role of the youth in ensuring the sustainable future of our agriculture sector. Through our internship program, our goal is to encourage the youth to pursue careers in the agriculture sector by providing them with a platform to gain practical experience and contribute to the revitalization of the sector. We seek to create a dynamic and supportive environment where interns can learn, grow, and make meaningful contributions.

The agriculture sector plays a crucial role in sustaining economies all over the world. In the Philippines, it contributes significantly to employment, GDP, and food security. Despite the critical role of agriculture in global food security and economic development, there is a significant gap in youth participation in the sector. The youth unemployment rate remains high, while the agriculture industry faces challenges related to outdated practices, lack of innovation, and a rapidly aging workforce.  The average age of Filipinos is 24 years old, which means most of our population belong to the youth sector. But unfortunately they are becoming less interested in a career in agriculture

Growing up with the internet and technology, they are naturally enticed and inclined to pursue opportunities elsewhere. Many young Filipinos also do not view a career in agriculture as profitable. On top of this, our farmers are already aging, with what Riney-Kehrberg calls “last generation” farmers. In the Philippines, the average age of a farmer is already 57 and farming may not be their choice for their children’s future.

Without a next generation of farmers, agripreneurs, and agri professional farmers, we will inevitably face a food security crisis that will affect generations to come. The demand for the youth to be a part of the solution is greater than ever.
